The degree of waterproof LED strips
Waterproof LED strip is determined by the parameter "IP". It means the degree of protection afforded by the casing of an electric equipment against penetration of solid objects or detrimental effects of water penetration.
In the context of LED strips, we meet with the parameter IP, commonly called LED waterproof tape or NON WATERTIGHT.
||Dripping water (vertically falling drops) shall have no harmful effect.
||Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle of 15° from its normal position.
||Water falling as a spray at any angle up to 60° from the vertical shall have no harmful effect.
||Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect.
||Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
||Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
||Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).
||The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects.
The first number indicates the degree of protection of the housing against access of solid objects to sensitive parts located inside the
second number indicates the degree of protection against water of the housing.
When to use the LED strip with an increased degree of IP?
Speaking of the waterproof tape, we mean LED strip coated with a special gel or other resin material, intended to protect the LEDs and the electronic circuit throughout the section, from water or moisture. A waterproof tape commonly referred IP65 degree of (and above) use include in the bathroom, the bathtub or sink, or above the worktop in the kitchen.
When buying LED strip should consider whether you really will be exposed to high humidity and continuous flooding with water?
If the probability is rather insignificant, we advise buying NON WATERTIGHT tape.
Virtually every electronic product connected to a power source heats having the limit of resistance to heat. This is also the LED chips and disposed in the path of the strip. LED gel-coated tape, they are more vulnerable to the loss of performance LEDs and accelerated aging, binding to a reduced service life than is the case in a strip NON WATERTIGHT.
How to extend the life of the belt?
We can extend the life of the LED strips, by applying to the aluminum. Aluminum perfectly draws heat away from the LEDs, in addition to raising the aesthetic. LED strip in aluminum profile, hidden behind the shade is better protected against mechanical damage and dust.
Before buying, you should consider choosing the appropriate type of profile and diffuser. Product diversity in the range associated with the LED profiles allows for unusual decorative effects and ensures long-term use of purchased LED strip.
